Frequently Asked Questions

What materials are available?

Thanks to our newly installed ventilation system, we’re expanding our material offerings to include advanced engineering plastics like ABS, ASA, PC, Nylon PA6, and Carbon Fiber Nylon PA12-CF alongside our standard PLA, PETG, and TPU 90A options.

What 3D printing services are available?

We offer FDM printing with tight tolerances using high-quality 3D printers. The possibilities are endless, we can make models, prototypes, and industrial products. Note, that we do not offer SLA, SLS, or MJF printing.

What file type is required?

3D printing uses STL and 3MF files. Other file types like OBJ files can be converted into compatible file types. Please get in touch with us if you are unsure of your file compatibility.

Are parts truly transparent?

FDM 3D printed parts using transparent filament result in objects that are translucent rather than fully transparent, due to the layering process scattering light. Achieving glass-like clarity directly from the printer is not possible.

What colours are available?

For PLA and PETG materials, we offer a wide range of colors. Other material types are typically available in black and white. To see the colors currently in stock, feel free to use our instant quote tool.

Is 3D printing environmentally friendly?

PLA, also known as Poly-Lactic Acid, is a naturally made plastic from renewable resources such as corn starch, and sugar cane, unlike other industrial materials made primarily from petroleum!

Are 3D printed parts strong?

Yes! 3D printed parts are quite durable. The material choice, coupled with calculated infill density based on your application, determines their sturdiness. Higher infill means greater durability, while less infill reduces material usage and cost.

How long does a part take?

Our office has many machines which allow us to print around the clock. Depending on the part’s complexity, it can take just a few hours to complete a project. Get in contact with us if you have a tight timeline.

How do I place an order?

To place an order, simply upload your 3D model file through our website using our Instant Quoting Tool, choose your material and color, and specify the quality settings.

Are file uploads secure?

3D Printing Room does not store any data from files uploaded to our Instant Quoting Tool unless a purchase is made. We recommend reviewing Make My Stuff’s privacy policy, as they oversee data management and protection.

How do I order a multi-colour part?

If you need to order a multi-colour part, please refrain from using our Instant Quoting Tool. Instead, reach out directly to our sales team to request a quote.

What material should I choose?

Check out our materials page for a detailed comparison. If your part doesn’t face outdoor exposure or structural issues, consider PLA plastic. It’s popular, offers great surface finish, and is cost-effective for most parts.

What is the maximum build size and resolution?

Our 3D printers can create parts up to 35cm x 32cm x 32.5cm with a precision of ± 0.3 mm. For projects exceeding these dimensions, we offer design segmentation into multiple prints.

Do you provide finishing services for 3D printed parts?

We remove any support material from the 3D printed parts as part of our standard process. However, we do not offer additional finishing services, so the parts will be provided to you as they come off the printer, cleaned of any supports.

Can I paint and glue 3D printed parts?

Yes, you can paint and glue various types of 3D print plastics, including PLA, ABS, PETG, TPU, ASA, nylon, and PC. Each type may require specific paints or adhesives for optimal results.

How can I check the status of my order?

You will receive an email confirmation once your part has been shipped, allowing you to track the status of your order. If you have any further inquiries or need additional information, please feel free to contact us, ensuring you include your order number for reference.

How do I book a consultation?

To book a consultation, please visit our ‘Contact Us‘ page. There, you will find the necessary information and steps to schedule a consultation according to your convenience and requirements.

Is the plastic toxic after it is printed?

FDM-printed plastics like PLA aren’t toxic, but the layered structure may harbor bacteria in small crevices. It’s essential to consider post-processing for applications that demand sterility.
